Aside from tech-y things I’ll write about sometimes I’ll bring up stuff outside that ‘realm’.
My family and I have been part of a program with the YMCA of the Triangle going on 14 years! This is a wonderful program where dad’s intentionally spend time with their children building memories and a lifelong bond. We’ve certainly taken advantage of what we could through the program.
One aspect is spring and fall weekend camps for participants. These camps provide a great experience of cabin, or sometimes tent camping at a couple of the properties the YMCA of the Triangle has access to. When at these camps there are a variety of activities, some dependent on the camp – but things like a BB range, archery, zip lines, canoeing, hiking, etc.
Volunteers run these camps and activities – and we’ve been able to help out at a couple of events, and have had a great time doing so. The program allows volunteers of all ages that have been in the program, so my hope is we can continue this for years to come!
This past weekend we were able to run an archery range at Camp Seagull near Arapahoe, NC. We lucked out on the weather, and were able to help several hundred kids and dad pairs make it through our activity. It’s always fun to watch the little ones and remember what it was like I was at that point with my family.
I highly recommend the program for dads with 1st through 3rd grade children. After that the program changes a bit – aside from being able to volunteer there is another camp in Black Mountain, NC in the fall that’s a blast.
